"new" toy
after following craigslist for a relatively short time, i found this beauty.
it's a 1928 South Bend 9" Junior.
it was a MIAD, and i'm wondering if they purchased it brand new when it was the Layton School of Art. anyway, they were replacing their lathe's with new Grizzlys which, sorry, but they don't have any character compared to this. the original paint job was black with gold lettering (reminiscent of the old singer sewing machines... maybe because south bend moved into singer's old factory in the 20's...?) i may have to give this some love and restore it to it's former classy look

it came with a bunch of tooling, although most of it's too big so i'm going to have to make my own tool holder. i got it for only $550, and it's in good condition, just put a plug on it and it was ready to go, already turned a little test piece.
best buy i could have made. now i HAVE to get a studio up and running
